Celebrating National Health Center Week: The Dental Team

The Health Department is proud of the top-notch care our Dental Team provides patients, using state-of-the-art dental equipment in all eight of the City’s Health Centers. The Dental Team’s providers include dentists and public health dental hygienists who are assisted by expanded function dental assistants.

During the past year, the Dental Team treated patients in 16,215 total visits, which is a 5.5 percent increase from the previous year. Providing high-quality dental services to these patients is critical as 80 percent do not have dental insurance and many may not be able to afford proper dental care elsewhere.

The Dental Team provides exceptional care in general dental services, including cleanings, x-rays, fillings and simple extractions. Recently, it expanded dental services to include scaling, occlusal mouth guards and root canal services on a reduced fee scale. The Dental Team plans to continue to expand its service menu to include crowns and dentures.
